The Silencing of Conservative Small Businesses
Despite major left-leaning news outlets claiming that conservatives are not being silenced on social media platforms, our experience is to the contrary. Just within the last few weeks, there has been a combined effort to restrict our ability to reach our audience and even more important, to advertise to them.
"I wanted to start a business that would give back to all who supported us, and this is what happens"
Up In Arms Clothing Co. is a patriotic family-run small business founded in 2020 by Daniel Skillman, a Marine Corps veteran in Peoria, Arizona. "I wanted to start a business that would give back to all who supported us, and this is what happens" said Daniel. Over the last few weeks, Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok have permanently suspended and restricted Up In Arms Clothing's ability to advertise on their platforms and limited their reach, known as shadow banning. According to Daniel, "We received vague responses from each platform stating the reason for each suspension. We've tried to follow all the guidelines and comply with advertising policies, but it just wasn't enough". Some of the reasons provided included suspicious activity, circumventing procedures, and violating community standards. "We are a family-run business, and this is just another blow by big tech to suppress conservatives. If you don't believe that this can happen to you, you're not living in reality".

The most concerning part of this story are the seemingly combined efforts to suppress businesses that do not fall in line with the current narrative. The apparel Up In Arms Clothing sells is not offensive but is pro 2nd amendment and pro-American. "I think the most frustrating part is the lack of consistency with platforms enforcing their community standards. How can an American flag on a shirt go against standards but showing sexual or obscene content does not. It just doesn't make sense."
We don't have the resources to hire lawyers and fight this. We have to find new ways to reach our audience, but people need to know that this stuff is really happening. Regardless of what main stream media says, conservatives are being silenced and it's wrong.
